Our physicians and staff understand how important it is to get amateur and professional athletes back into action. Most importantly, we recognize that treatment from diagnosis to rehabilitation is determined on an individual basis, not the industry norm. We evaluate each athlete's injury and are able to rehabilitate on time frames that best suit the athlete.
CORE Orthopaedic Medical Center is committed to athletics on all levels and looks for opportunities to service the athletes in our area. Our Athlete Services Department handles the following services for professional and amateur athletes:
- Surgical and non-surgical treatment and rehabilitation for athletes;
- Work with athletic departments to provide orthopaedic care and physicals for high school and collegiate athletes.
- On site representation of CORE Orthopaedic Medical Center staff and physicians at world class sporting events such as the X-Games, National Surf League Series (THE GAME), the Legendary Mt. Baker Banked Slalom.
- Individual athletic sponsorships as well as team sponsorships
- Extensive referral network to provide athlete with complete medical care
The physicians and staff at CORE Orthopaedic Medical Center have made a huge impact on the lives of athletes at all levels of play. Here is what our program has done for athletes and athletic programs in our community.
Rob Machado, Professional Surfer
"The crew at CORE Orthopaedic have taken care of me better than I could ever imagine. When it comes to taking care of my body, I go nowhere else but to CORE Orthopaedic. Broken hands, torn ligaments, you name it, they fixed me up and got me back in the water."
Brad Gerlach, Professional Surfer
"The Doctors and people at CORE are not only really cool and knowledgeable, but also surf and snowboard. They are really focused in ensuring that the athletes are taken care of and back in the water as quick as possible. CORE is where I go to as soon as I get an injury."
Anne Molin, Professional Snowboarder
"I really appreciate all the help I've gotten from the CORE Orthopaedic team. Thanks to Dr. Skyhar, I am back on my board and ready for a new season!"
Dr. Stephen Nichols, Athletic Director, Cal State San Marcos
"The rigors of cross-country and track take a big toll on our athletes; when they get injured, we send them straight to Dr. Loren. He has treated athletes with injuries that we thought would end their seasons -- problems with feet, knees, hips, shoulders, back, the works -- and Dr. Loren has had them back competing at a high level, after surprising little down time. He also helps us out with pre-season physical exams, and on several occasions he has spotted potential problems and taken preventative measures that kept an injury from developing in the first place. Once he even discovered a previously-undiagnosed heart problem in an athlete, quite possibly saving the young man's life. We feel most privileged to count Dr. Loren as our team physician."
Lael Gregory, Professional Snowboarder
"As a professional snowboarder who sustained injuries, I am aware of how important obtaining high quality treatment can be. It is important for athletes to know that CORE Orthopaedic is there for them. I have been treated by surgeons both nationally and internationally, and can say that CORE Orthopaedic Medical Center is in a class of its own."
Jason Lambert, WEC Light Heavy Weight Champion
"I saw Dr. Westerlund for my spine. He was awesome. He was straight forward and I appreciated the fact that the treatment I received was geared toward my recovery. Physical Therapy was great. Amanda took excellent care of me."
Keir Dillon, Professional Snowboarder
"Above anything else, the doctors at CORE Orthopaedic understand the needs of an athlete. They know how important it is for me to get the right diagnosis, the best treatment and a training-centered recovery program to return quickly to exercise and competition. The staff at CORE Orthopaedic takes care of all the details; all appointments, follow-up sessions and therapy arrangements are made seamlessly. It's obvious to me that they make athlete recovery their top priority."
Zach Leach, Professional Snowboarder
"I had surgery on my knee in April and was back on my board competing in August. Dr. Skyhar made me feel extremely comfortable and took excellent care of me."
